Burgers, sandwiches & wraps
-
Baked potatoes or grilled vegetables
-
Fries – a classic!
Tip:

How does BBQ sauce get so nicely smoky?
It’s easy: smoked salt is the game changer here! Alternatively, you can use smoked paprika powder if you prefer.
A homemade gift?
Absolutely! This sauce in a pretty jar, with a label & ribbon, makes a great little gift for a BBQ night or garden party. Who wouldn’t be happy about a homemade treat?
How do you make homemade BBQ sauce?
Ingredients for your homemade barbecue sauce:
-
100 g tomato paste
-
100 ml tomato ketchup
-
60 ml soy sauce
-
60 g brown sugar
-
20 g date syrup
-
2 tsp smoked salt
-
1 tsp garlic powder
-
about 30 ml water
It’s that easy:
Put all ingredients (except the soy sauce) into a small saucepan.
Bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
Simmer over low heat for about 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Finally, stir in the soy sauce, let it simmer briefly again, and adjust to taste.
Pour into a clean screw-top jar—done!
Stored airtight in the fridge, the sauce will easily keep for 2–3 weeks—if it isn’t eaten before then.
Want to level up your BBQ sauce? Of course!
You can adapt this basic recipe to your taste:
-
Herbs: bay leaf, thyme, or oregano
-
Seasoning: pepper, cumin, smoked paprika powder
-
Heat: chili oil, cayenne pepper, or fresh jalapeños
My conclusion:
I was honestly surprised at how easy it is to make BBQ sauce—and how incredibly good it tastes. The perfect recipe when you want to whip up something special quickly. Give it a try and tell me how you like to customize your BBQ sauce!
