LetsDoGardening

From an empty garden to true self-sufficiency

Welcome to LetsDoGardening – our new YouTube series all about gardening, self-sufficiency, and sustainable living.

What started as an empty plot is becoming, step by step, a well-planned self-sufficiency garden with raised beds, fruit trees, compost, a greenhouse—and, in the long run, our own chickens.

This project isn’t a short-term experiment.
It’s a long-term journey.

And we’re taking you along every weekend.

🌿 What is LetsDoGardening about?

We’ve taken over a small allotment garden of just under 500 m² in Lower Austria—complete with a summer house, existing trees, old structures, and lots of potential.

Our goal:

  • Grow our own organic-quality vegetables

  • Know where our food comes from

  • Bring the garden and the kitchen together

  • Become more independent step by step

LetsDoGardening is the natural extension of LetsDoCooking.
Because real cooking doesn’t start in the pan—it starts in the soil.

🪴 The project at a glance

Plans include, among other things:

  • Metal and DIY wooden raised beds

  • A small field plot for corn, beans, and potatoes

  • A dedicated compost area

  • Fruit and berry bushes

  • New apple, cherry, and peach trees

  • A greenhouse

  • A brick-built grill for garden recipes

  • Long term: a well-designed chicken coop

Along the way, we’re documenting not only the successes, but also the challenges:

  • Removing old thujas and root stumps

  • Renovating the garden house

  • A new terrace and roof work

  • Building structure and irrigation

This project will grow over time—just like a garden.

🪴 Here’s a rough plan:

🎥 The LetsDoGardening series

Every weekend, a new episode is released on our YouTube channel.

In each episode, we show:

  • current work in the garden

  • progress and setbacks

  • building projects and planting sessions

  • planning steps and decisions

  • and the connection to the kitchen and to LetsDoCooking

The series is calm, honest, and designed for the long term.
No quick project. No perfection. Just real progress.

🔄 New posts week after week

For each episode, we publish a matching post here on the website with:

  • background information

  • additional details

  • planting lists and build ideas

  • project updates

  • and all relevant links

You’ll find the latest posts further down on this page.

With each new episode, this category grows—just like our garden.

🌱 Why we’re taking this path

For us, self-sufficiency doesn’t mean isolation.
It means responsibility.

We want to:

  • consume more consciously

  • live more sustainably

  • show our children where food comes from

  • and define quality for ourselves

LetsDoGardening isn’t a trend.
It’s a decision.

📅 Follow our journey
